Since the start of 2010 we have been very busy fulfilling a variety of installations, and other requirements. Here is a quick run down of what we’ve been up to.

January
Completed stage 2 of River Island head office installation included separate music zones for the staff, a full TV in house network, Video conferencing suite with full Cue design control, Gym and workout aerobic room. Plus meeting rooms with Projectors and user interface system.

February
Install an acoustic ceiling and wall system in a bar that had been plagued with complaints from the flat above even though they had taken numerous steps to resolve the problem over a couple of years. The treatment was a sensational success. The bar ceiling is directly under the main bedroom. And in testing with the Environmental health and safety officers music in the bar playing at 96dB was inaudible in the flat. Happy Venue, Happy Resident and Happy Council

February
Ideal home show. We installed the invisible speakers into the unique CUB project of pod housing.

March
Installed a 40 module Sound Ceiling into Bar Kelona in Athens.

Consultation work with Da Vinci restaurant in Athens. This restaurant is a gothic style super chic place to be seen. They are have massive noise issues due the cathedral type building. With have proposed the solution. Watch this space.

April
Installed Sound Ceiling at Benfield Wheatsheaf this was an instant success resolving a noise problem that had been going on for over a year. Once the SC was installed we went to the problem property some 60 meters away. We started at 90dB and turned the system up at 5dB increments until we could hear the music. This was the plan however when we reached 110 db on the dance floor and we still could not hear the music at the point of usual annoyance we decided the test was complete as the venue only required 96 db on the dance floor.

May
Preparation for our new distributor in India. The new office will be open for business at the new of May 2010

Grand Design trade show at Excel London 1-9 May again with the CUB Housing project.

Presently in consultation with Madam Geisha, Brighton. Once again we are tackling a problem with noise leaking from the venue to an adjacent hotel. Once again watch this space.

Wigan Pier is recognised as the UK’s number 1 Bounce Club, over the last few months Sound Ceilings UK has been working towards a complete sound, lighting and FX refit in the venue. A recent renovation of a previously commercial property meant that whilst the club functioned without restrictions for years, it now has to meet various guidelines set by the council.

During consultation it was suggested that a complete refurbishment could be possible for their annual Birthday Weekender, this meant that with a restricted amount of time in which to complete the work Sound Ceilings UK were up against the clock to get the install finished.

Never one to shirk a challenge the install included an 8 grid Sound Ceiling, 2 OHM Bass Bins, 6 peripheral speakers, 9 OHM A3 amps, 1 CRED mkII OHM processor, 9 Martin Wizards, 1 Martin Atomic 3000, complete DJ booth refit, and FX to match. The 8 grids contained 208 Sound Ceiling tiles filling the club with an amazing level of volume and quality of sound.

All that is left now is to set levels with council officials, once completed the Pier will be able to do what it does best and pump out Bounce to the thousands of clubbers that attend each and every month.

Having been invited to speak and demonstrate the Sound Ceiling at a noise awareness convention in Darlington, problems Redworth Hall had been suffering were highlighted. Following a consultation with the manager of Redworth Hall, part of the Barcelo Hotel group, it very quickly became obvious that Sound Ceilings UK could provide a solution.

The Great Hall, which dates back over 250 years, is used primarily as a function room for weddings and similar occasions. Situated on the side of Redworth Hall and with very large single pane windows facing Redworth village, noise complaints had become a regular occurrence. As a Grade 1 listed building soundproofing and any other major structural changes had been immediately ruled out, this meant that any work carried out had to be with approval from the local planning conservation authority.

The project entailed installing 3 groups of 12, totalling 36 Sound Ceiling tiles, into the wooden bays already present in the building. To make things interesting, under instruction from conservation planning, the tiles must be disguised to look like the ornate blue and yellow starred ceiling decoration displayed throughout.

After installation Redworth has been left with a complete audio package providing amplification, processing and speaker system for any DJ or band playing at the venue, all plugging into the same XLR connection point. This means that without having an attendant at each event, management can be confident sound levels will not be exceeded, leaving the entertainment inaudible throughout Redworth village. As requested each of the speaker groupings were covering with an acoustically transparent material that had a high quality photographic print of the original ceiling decoration.

Sound Ceilings UK was recommended to New Hall by leading marquee manufacturer Techtonics. During the process of application for a permanent marquee it became apparent that offering a solution to noise pollution would be paramount to the applications success. Having worked with Sound Ceilings UK in the past, Techtonics made the recommendation and all parties began moving towards gaining answers for the planning committee.

Having proven the Sound Ceiling system to those involved, it was simply a case getting the everything in place and installing as soon as possible. New Hall, part of the Handpicked Hotels Group, now has a 32 tile Sound Ceiling above the marquees dancefloor. The Sound Ceiling itself was erected on an angle to increase its sound footprint and enable the system to be hidden behind their marquees inner lining.

In addition to this satellite speakers were used to pick up the entrance foyer. All other amplification and processing units are behind front of house, meaning that any visiting DJ or band plug into the XLR points and the sound levels set are not exceeded.

Old Keilor Hotel appoached Sound Ceilings with noise creating an issue both inside and outside their venue. Inside they hoped to define a dining area from the more upbeat bar and dancefloor. Outside surrounding tennants had begun complaining about the sound escaping from the marquee which was being used as a function room.

As is the case with so many permanent and semi-permanent marquees used for this purpose, containing noise from polluting surrounding areas can prove extremely problematic. Usually the barrier between a marquees dancefloor and the outside is absolute minimal, the fact that in Old Keilor Hotel the marquee sides are raised ment that there was in fact only air between a high-volume dancefloor and paying hotel guests.

In order to combat both issues discussed the Sound Ceiling was designed to sit in the middle of their bar area. The 48 tile system was attched to a central pole providing 17.5m squared of dancefloor playing in excess of 98dB, yet with nothing in between sleeping guests were not disturbed.
